2373 - Hector Aguilar, Mexican
c. 1940-1945
Signature: "conjoined HA, Taxco,
Mexico".
Condition: Excellent
Price: $1,100.00 for pair
Here is a nice example of a
Modernist pair of mixed metal (brass & copper) Scroll candlesticks made
by one of the foremost master craftsman of Mexico, Hector Aguilar. One
does not encounter his objects as often as his jewelry as they were made
in much smaller numbers. This pair of candlesticks would be the
highlight of a table settings. An example of this set is pictured on
page 120 of the book "Silver Master of Mexico". These candlesticks were
made in either mixed metal or sterling silver (the silver one being much
scarcer but also made later, circa 1950's).

This is a great Modernist sterling
silver and blue enamel broche and earring set made by John Bryan,
working out of Asheville, NC. A similar brooch can be seen on page 221
of the book "Modernist jewelry, 1930-1960". Simple as is most modernist
jewelry but exquisite and very well done.
